All About Nathan

I grew up in Tremonton, Utah. I am the youngest of seven, with five brothers and one sister.  My whole family is very musical, and I was encouraged from a very young age to begin on a musical instrument for the family band.  I started on guitar, but soon found that French Horn was my instrument of choice (much to the dismay of my dad - now the band would have no guitar player!). I played French Horn throughout Middle School and High School and I received a scholarship to continue with my French Horn in college.

I am a farmer at heart. My family owned and operated (and still does) a dry wheat farm all during my growing up years. My childhood was spent driving tractors, weeding massive gardens, planting and harvesting wheat. I love to spend time on the farm. I can't wait until I have kids to take out with me, to visit grandpa and to ride the tractors.

I love my westerns.  Whether it be a John Wayne movie or a Louis L'Amour book.  We once found a whole stack of Louis L'Amore books at a yard sale for $0.25 each...we packed up a big bag of them and I'm still trying to make my way through them all.

I also love basketball. I think March Madness should be a holiday. We have attended many Utah Jazz games together and when we lived in Rhode Island I would go to Boston when the Jazz played the Celtics, proudly sporting my John Stockton jersey in that sea of green. I play basketball with friends from church once a week, and don't be fooled by my height or dorky head and wrist bands (Holly calls them dorky, not me)...it's all a ploy to get you to underestimate me, then I'll lay my wicked jump shot on you.

Nathan: Through the eyes of Holly

When Nathan proposed he promised then to make me laugh everyday. Together we have shared many good days - and quite a few bad ones, but through it all we have walked side-by-side, laughing.

Nathan is the kind of guy you want for a husband. He is handsome and strong and quite handy with tools. Over the years, he has saved us a lot of money because of his ability to fix car problems on his own. He is a hard worker and puts the needs of everyone around him ahead of his own.

He is definitely the favorite uncle in his family.  He loves to get down on the floor and play with the nieces and nephews.  When the family gets together, he is always seen in the middle of the kids playing tag, or building block towers, or tickling some unsuspecting victim.  On his side of the family we have 19 nieces and nephews. Three of his brothers are also Navy musicians so the chance we will be stationed somewhere together is very high, which is great for our children - they will be able to live near their cousins!

Nathan's biggest talent is that of music. He is such an exceptional French Horn player.  He comes by it so naturally, it is actually kinda scary to think how good he could be. He struggled for years deciding what he wanted to be 'when he grew up', he thought of engineering, insurance, even working on a production line. We finally decided, together, that if he had a talent that would allow him to provide a living for his family we should let him do it. God gives you talents to use them! That is where the Navy Music program came into our lives.

Nathan was selected as Sailor of the Year for 2010.

Nathan is a fun-loving guy.  He loves to get a reaction out of someone by doing something silly.  He laughs and is an eternal optimist.  With all the struggles we've been through, it is truly Nathan's uplifting outlook on life that has brought us through. I love him for the man that he is and because of the woman he makes me want to be.
